da betsson: After a confidence boosting victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, it seemed as if Liverpool had turned a corner. However, in the next match against Leicester City they put in one of their worst performances of the season, falling to a 3-1 defeat against a team that had been struggling to pick up wins for months.
da stake casino: That’s put all the pressure that was alleviated against Spurs right back on Jurgen Klopp’s shoulders, with performances and results needing to improve to bring back the good feeling at the club earlier in the season.
It’s a tough ask. Despite Arsenal’s recent problems themselves, most notably a 5-1 thrashing at Bayern Munich, Arsene Wenger’s side are still a very good team and like the Reds also have a point to prove at Anfield.
What steps can Klopp take to ensure his side come away with a victory?
Here are three tweaks to the side that played Leicester that can help massively on Saturday…
Take Lucas Leiva out of defence
There’s no doubting that Lucas Leiva has performed a job for Liverpool this season, and a difficult one at that. The Brazilian has had to change rather dramatically from a midfielder to a defender for large chunks of the season and for the most part succeeded.
However, the fact he wasn’t a natural defender was exposed on Monday and with Ragnar Klavan available from the bench, there were some scratching their head and wondering why Klopp persists with unnatural central defenders when playing against what are very handy Premier League sides.
With the possibility of facing Olivier Giroud or Alexis Sanchez at the weekend, Klopp must have people in his backline that have learned their craft as a defender since a young age. Those natural instincts are hard to replace and regardless of form, Klopp must back the defenders he has at the club.
Sit Emre Can a little deeper
Emre Can has been a fairly consistent performer for Liverpool this season. Even against Leicester he was far from the worst in the Reds side, providing the assist for Philippe Coutinho to give Jurgen Klopp a glimmer of hope 3-0 down.
On Saturday Liverpool will be going up one of the most lethal attacking midfielders in the country, Mesut Ozil, and while he hasn’t quite the hits we’ve been used to in recent weeks he is still one of Arsenal’s most dangerous options.
As such, Klopp should ensure Can plays a less roaming role than we’re used to. We know he has the defensive chops to counter-act the threat of Ozil and that should be his primary purpose. If he’s effectively dominating that area as the game wears on then he can think about imposing himself on the game in possession for Liverpool.
Start Divock Origi
Roberto Firmino has only scored 2 goals in his last 10 starts for Liverpool and both of those came in a 3-2 defeat to Swansea at Anfield. He’s now gone close to 9 hours of football without scoring and that’s not a situation that Liverpool can tolerate much longer.
Divock Origi’s chances have been limited this season but did score the last time he started, against Wolves, and has scored 8 goals this season despite starting just 12 games.
He deserves a chance to show what he can do, if nothing else just to put a rocket up Firmino, who clearly needs more motivation than he currently has.
