da jogodeouro: Leeds United supporters have reacted with bemusement to one statistic from the club’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Friday.
The Whites were beaten 2-1 by the Latics as they sustained a serious blow in their bid to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Indeed, the club are now third, level on points with Sheffield United in second but behind the Blades on goal difference.
Phil Hay, the Leeds correspondent for the Yorkshire Evening Post, pointed out after the final whistle that Leeds’ attempted 59 crosses across the 90 minutes.
One led to the sending off of Cedric Kipre, who handled a Patrick Bamford effort on the line, resulting in a penalty that was missed by Pablo Hernandez.
Bamford scored the first goal of the game just a minute later but Marcelo Bielsa’s side were pegged back by a brace from Gavin Massey.
And fans have been left dejected by Hay’s revelation, with Leeds having 36 shots on goal, though only 10 were on target.
