Newcastle United fans have reacted to one particularly disappointing moment against Southampton on Saturday.
The Magpies, who hadn’t scored in the Premier League since January 21st, had the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot after Sofiane Boufal was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
Matt Ritchie stepped up to take the spot-kick but saw it saved by Alex McCarthy, much to the dismay of the Magpies supporters.
Indeed, a number took aim at Ritchie’s penalty, while others were just disappointed in the team as a whole.
Indeed, Moussa Djenepo had been sent off prior to Ritchie’s chance from the spot, leaving the Saints with 10 men.
And a lot of supporters took specific aim at Ritchie himself, with a few urging for him to get out of the club.
Surprisingly enough, he signed a new contract earlier this week, and it was an issue that had one Newcastle fan seemingly bewildered .
It was perhaps a surprise that it was the 30-year-old who stepped up to take the penalty, given that he has not scored a single goal this season.
Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Newcastle signings…
In a marked statement on his display, he was eventually substituted and replaced by Joelinton, a striker who has scored just once this term in the top-flight.
In the end, Allan Saint-Maximin’s goal gave Newcastle all three points, as they escaped St Mary’s with a 1-0 win.
Meanwhile, Newcastle fans have reacted to these Steve Bruce quotes!
