Tottenham will have been put on red alert as Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has praised Luka Modric.
The Croatian playmaker is the hub around which the White Hart Lane side build their team, and the north London side had to fight hard to keep the attacking midfielder at the club last summer as Chelsea circled.
Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy will expect more attention at the end of this season when the transfer window reopens, and the Etihad Stadium chief has confessed that Modric is a player he admires.
“Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player,” the Italian coach told The Sun.
“He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.
“But it is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.
“We are lucky to have another great player from these parts in Edin Dzeko.
“I have worked with quite a few players from these parts — not just Croatians, but Bosnians, Serbs and Montenegrins.
“I have many friends among them and I am very proud of it. They are really something special and they mostly play with invention and creativity,” he concluded.
Some of Tottenham’s stars futures will be decided by where their side finish up this season; if Spurs can finish third the London club would hope to convince their main players to stay, but if they were to end up in fifth it would be likely that Modric etc would seek a move away from White Hart Lane.
