A huge one at that.Richarlison had only just finished his first season in England after signing for Watford from Fluminense back in 2017, and despite a glitzy start, his form rapidly dwindled and endured a miserable end to the campaign.Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…The Brazil international scored five goals and recorded four assists that term, but wasn’t involved in a single goal after recording an assist against Crystal Palace on December 12th 2017.Despite that, Everton saw his talent and Marco Silva wanted to be reunited with the exciting attacker – it was a huge gamble for Marcel Brands to take on, but one that is starting to pay off both on the pitch as well as away from it.Impressively, the 5 foot 10 forward finished as the Toffees’ joint-top scorer alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson with 14 goals last term.ÂThe improvement from his debut campaign in England was there for all to see as he scored almost three times as many goals.
Off the pitch, however, his mere presence alone at Goodison Park has caused a real shock in the transfer market, an effect that no-one would’ve foreseen.
Brazilian wonder-kids seem to be on the eye of Europe’s elite clubs right now. Real Madrid parted with £38.7m and £40.4m to sign Brazilian teenagers Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo Goes respectively, presumably with the intention of seeing one of them becoming the next Neymar Jr and a potential Ballon d’Or winner.
Another one on the Spanish giants’ hit-list is Flamengo hotshot Reinier.
Surely Los Blancos, the most prestigious club in world football, are leading the race to sign him, right?
Wrong. Everton are.
According to 90min, the Toffees are actually looking set to successfully fend off competition – which reportedly includes the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund – for the 17-year-old’s signature.
How? How have Everton swatted away the aforementioned footballing juggernauts to land the Brazilian starlet?
Richarlison is how.
90min has revealed that it is his compatriot’s presence at Goodison Park that has swayed him towards Merseyside, a transfer development that nobody would’ve seen coming given the pedigree of this precocious youngster.
If Everton and Brands didn’t take the gamble on Richarlison last summer, there would surely have been no shred of a chance that Reinier would even consider signing for the club.
You only need to take a look at this ludicrous lob in the video below to fathom the extent of Reinier’s natural ability.
No disrespect to the Toffees, but with no European football to offer and an inferior historical status compared to Madrid and Milan, Reinier would be forgiven for laughing off interest from them.
But this is concrete. This is legitimate. Everton are actually in the discussion about a player who’s list of potential suitors suggests he has the potential to elevate to the top of European football.
That £50m gamble from the summer of 2018 is beginning to reap the rewards both on the pitch and now in the transfer market.
Perhaps Richarlison’s success could encourage the next generation of Brazilian stars to seriously entertain the possibility of moving to Goodison Park.
