Stephen McGowan then claimed last weekend that Bankier is set to be replaced in his position as chairman after almost 10 years in charge.
It appears as if his replacement will be an internal one, with Brown a current non-executive director.

The Latest: Hodge’s comments
Give Me Sport shared a story on Friday where they spoke to journalist Stuart Hodge.
Hodge said he’s ‘been hearing’ of an internal appointment to replace Bankier and cited Brown’s name.
“I’ve been hearing that it’s going to be someone who is already internally on the board that will probably replace Ian Bankier as chairman.
“That will be the political move that makes Celtic look like they appreciate the need for a refresh.
“Sharon Brown is expected to be the person in some quarters. That’s not something that’s rock solid but, just talking to people, it seems to be the thinking. So if Bankier goes, it’s like ‘the King is dead, long live the Queen’. That’s what you’re essentially looking at.
“Nothing’s really changing there – just a name, just a figurehead.
“But there needs to be a move to a 21st century sporting model. That’s it.
“I don’t see Celtic, with the current board that they’ve got, doing that and that’s the big problem at the football club.”
The Verdict: Plenty of changes
Rewind 12 months and you can appreciate the change at Celtic Park. A new manager has arrived in Ange Postecoglou, Peter Lawwell has resigned as CEO, his replacement has now left and the Hoops also now look set to have a new chairman.
Only time will tell how much of an impact Bankier’s exit will have and if Brown is the right replacement, but it could turn out to be a wise move making an internal appointment following a year of change.
