da dobrowin: Arsenal are set to be without any recognised full backs for the busy christmas period, as summer signing Andre Santos is likely to face a lengthy spell on the treatment table after being injured in the North London side’s 3-1 defeat to Olympiakos on Tuesday night.
The Brazil international was replaced after 51 minutes after looking in some pain with an ankle injury; coach Arsene Wenger confirmed that he would have to do without the South American for the time being.
“Santos suffered a bad ankle injury. He looks like he’ll be out for a while,” the French manager told The Daily Mail.
With Kieran Gibbs suffering from a hernia problem and both Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna also unavailable for selection, Wenger will need to use the depth of his squad to fill the problem areas.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who was also replaced in the fixture in Greece, is confident of making a speedy recovery.
The reserve stopper suffered a cut in a collision with Thomas Vermaelen and had to be replaced by Vito Mannone after 25 minutes, but is hoping to be fighting fit in the near future.
“I think I am fine, it’s just a really deep cut,” the Polish keeper revealed to the club’s official website.
“It was really unlucky but hopefully all the ligaments in my knee should be OK. Hopefully nothing will come out tomorrow or in the next couple of days,” he concluded.
The Gunners have Everton next up at the Emirates, and will look to get back to winning ways with the return of their big-name players.
