da brdice: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has no intention of strengthening his first-team squad with new faces when the transfer window reopens in January, according to The Telegraph.
da roleta: Why is Wenger tightening the purse strings?
Arsenal supporters are no strangers to frustrating transfer windows. In fact, nowadays it seems that Wenger’s spending is under more scrutiny than his counterparts twice a season.
In the summer of 2015, Petr Cech’s switch to the Emirates from Chelsea was the only significant signing made by the Gunners.
In the most recent summer window, they were much busier, spending close to £100m on Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka, Lucas Perez and Rob Holding, but fans should not expect many, if any, arrivals next month.
The Telegraph reports that the North London outfit will not look to bring in any new players for the first team unless they suffer an injury that will hugely affect the squad.
This remains the case even though Santi Cazorla will miss the next two to three months after undergoing surgery to cure an Achilles problem.
Do Arsenal need new recruits?
It seems every season that there is an area of the pitch that the North London outfit need to strengthen, but in the current campaign they are looking pretty solid all over.
They have shored up at the back with the introduction of Mustafi, who has formed a strong partnership with Laurent Koscielny, while Wenger has a handful of midfield options.
Cazorla may be out, but Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny are all at the manager’s disposal.
In addition, Alexis Sanchez has been thriving as a centre-forward having scored 13 goals in the Premier League and Champions League so far this season.
On top of that, Arsenal have defender Per Mertesacker and full-back Hector Bellerin to come back from injuries, so on the face of it the Gunners do not desperately need to jump into the transfer market.
The only potential worry for Arsenal is that they could drift in the title race if their rivals Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United strengthen next month.
