da jogodeouro: Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Marouane Chamakh will miss the visit of Marseille on Tuesday night in the Champions League due to a knee injury.
The Morocco international will most likely be replaced by Park Chu-Young on the bench, whilst both Thomas Vermaelen and Carl Jenkinson are fit again to feature.
“Chamakh is injured. He has a knee problem and will not be involved,” Wenger stated in a press conference in the build up to the game.
“They (Vermaelen and Jenkinson) will both be available and in the squad.
“I haven’t picked the team yet so I don’t know if they are fit enough to start. Are they fit enough to play? Yes, of course.
“Yossi Benayoun is also back in the squad,” he stated.
Arsenal won a thrilling London derby at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 5-3, but Wenger is determined to focus on the European task at hand.
“We have now to forget about Chelsea, carry on, and prove that we can keep doing the job.
“We want just to qualify. Our job is to forget about the last game, take the positives out of it, and focus on the next one just as we had to do when we lost 8-2 to Manchester United.
“(Marseille) are a team which certainly is more at ease away from home than at home.
“They are a side who can defend well and are very physical. They have gained confidence and they will be out to hit us on the counter-attack,” he concluded.
A win for Arsenal would all but guarantee a place in the next round of the tournament, lifting them up to 10 points.
