da dobrowin: Newcastle United were one of the busier teams in the summer transfer market, but after four Premier League matches the Magpies are yet to claim their first win of the season.
da bwin: Alan Pardew, despite receiving the backing of owner Mike Ashley, is under immense pressure to deliver with a section of supporters already calling for him to be sacked.
The Toon Army do have an easier set of fixtures on the horizon to save their poor start, but no matter the results they are likely to be targeting a few new players before the upcoming window.
So, with that in mind, here are FIVE TRANSFERS Newcastle could complete in January.

Jermaine Defoe
Newcastle went about solving their striker issues by signing Emmanuel Riviere from Monaco and Siem de Jong from Ajax respectively, however the former hasn’t hit the ground running while De Jong is sidelined with injury.
Therefore the Magpies could turn to Jermaine Defoe, whose MLS season ends in December. If the Newcastle hierarchy aren’t looking for a permanent transfer, they could also take the striker on loan for three months during the MLS break.
Defoe is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, notching 76 goals in 182 appearances during his previous stint at Tottenham Hotspur.
Alexandre Lacazette
Another striker Newcastle have been closely monitoring is Alexandre Lacazette, who scored 22 goals in 54 appearances for Ligue-1 side Lyon last season.
The 23-year old has already started out this campaign with a bang, notching three goals in his first five fixtures.
If the Magpies are still unable to solve their goalscoring woes, expect Alan Pardew to make another attempt for the fast and clinical hitman this January.
Yoann Gourcuff

Not too long ago Gourcuff was considered one of the best attacking midfielders in France, winning the Ligue-1 and the French Player of the Year back in 2009.
However his rise in prominence did not go as planned, and is now playing a bit-part role with Lyon after suffering niggling injuries and a loss of form.
But his previous season was the best since he moved to Lyon from Bordeaux back in 2010, in which he scored six goals and provided nine assists in 30 appearances.
Could the Magpies gamble on the midfielder once known as the ‘Next Zinedine Zidane’?
Nampalys Mendy
Newcastle star Chieck Tiote has been a mainstay at the club for some time, and it is expected that sooner rather than later the Ivorian will depart St.Jame’s Park.
The Magpies will therefore be looking for a successor, and reports suggest they are targeting France U21 captain Nampalys Mendy.
Referred to as a ‘carbon copy of Claude Makelele’, Mendy currently plies his trade with Nice after moving from Monaco back in 2010.
Aaron Lennon
Aaron Lennon has been synonymous with Tottenham Hotspur, but for the first time the English international seems to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
Erik Lamela, Nacir Chadli, and Christian Eriksen have become the three attacking midfielders of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and it is likely Lennon will depart in January.
Newcastle would be a perfect fit for the pacey 27-year-old, who was offered to the Magpies amongst other clubs on deadline day.
Lennon would be deployed on the right of a deadly attacking midfield trio for the Tyneside club, with Cabella on the left and Siem de Jong – when fit – playing behind Emmanuel Riviere.
