da spicy bet: Sheffield Wednesday will look to further cement their place in the Championship play-off places when they host Burton Albion at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.
da roleta: The Owls thrashed fellow top-six hopefuls Norwich City 5-1 at home on Saturday, with January transfer window signing Jordan Rhodes scoring twice, adding to goals from Ross Wallace, Morgan Fox and Fernando Forestieri.
That huge win meant Carlos Carvalhal’s men maintained their five-point advantage over seventh-placed Fulham, as the Yorkshire outfit look to finally make a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
In midweek, they face a Burton Albion side who are in 19th position and just three points above the relegation zone.
A 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Bristol City at Ashton Gate at the weekend kept their heads above water, but they could be nervous ahead of their trip north having seen Wednesday’s goal glut against the Canaries.
Here are THREE reasons why Sheffield Wednesday can’t afford to be complacent when they host the Brewers…
Burton don’t concede too many
Despite their lowly position, Burton’s record of conceding 47 goals in their 35 Championship matches this season isn’t so bad when you see that bottom-of-the-table Rotherham have let in 78, Nottingham Forest 58 and play-off hopefuls Norwich City 53.
The Brewers have been particularly tight at the back in recent weeks – conceding just twice in their last four matches – and they have recorded successive goalless draws on the road against Derby County and Bristol City.
While Sheffield Wednesday smashed five past Norwich at the weekend, they can’t afford to think that it will be easy to do the same on Tuesday.
Norwich thrashing followed disappointing matches
While the Owls were comfortable victors against Norwich, Carlos Carvalhal will be quick to remind his players that things weren’t as simple in their previous two Championship fixtures.
Wednesday scored just one goal in a 2-1 home defeat to Brentford and a 1-0 loss on the road against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, and it means that they will need to be at their attacking best if they are to get the result that they need against Burton.
Results against teams at the bottom
Wednesday have faced many of the sides at the wrong end of the Championship standings over the course of the last couple of months, and they have found these matches anything but easy.
Wins by a one-goal margin against Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic last month were far from straightforward, while the Owls were held 2-2 by Bristol City at Ashton Gate in January.
While they have home advantage on Tuesday night when they host Burton, Carlos Carvalhal will need to get his team motivated on what could be a difficult night.
