da aposte e ganhe: Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side had lost their previous three games across all competitions, and there may have been some nerves within the camp about their poor run continuing at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.

One man who impressed over the course of the 90 minutes, was James Ward-Prowse. Playing as a right-back, the Saints ace stuck to his task diligently, and didn’t offer Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish much joy.
Grealish had his only shot blocked, and failed to complete any of his eight attempted crosses. Ward-Prowse meanwhile had an impressive 63 touches, made five interceptions (a game-high), and won four total duels.
After seeing his performance, Southampton fans took to Twitter to hail the 25-year-old.
Some Saints fans hailed Ward-Prowse for nullifying Villa’s main threats, claiming that he pocketed their players.
One fan meanwhile took the opportunity to also hail Hasenhuttl’s part in moving Ward-Prowse to right-back, describing the decision as a “masterstroke”.
Whether right-back ends up being Ward-Prowse’s long-term position remains up for debate.
But his composed performance in that role has given Hasenhuttl something to think about, as it allows someone like Will Smallbone to shine in a central midfield area.
Whose Line Is It Anyway: Michael Owen, Garth Crooks or Mark Lawrenson?
It could well be the perfect recipe for success for the Saints.
